In the heart of Ukraine, a delegation of African leaders has arrived to try to find a peaceful solution to the crisis between Ukraine and Russia. However, some Ukrainian politicians greeted their efforts with scorn. Mykhailo Podolyak, a local politician, sharply criticized the African leaders’ attempt, calling them primitive and questioning their skills and ability to resolve the crisis.
It has been assumed that they have no power or level to solve war problems. “They only do it for their geopolitical goals, including receiving resources from Russia and collecting “primitive” information on behalf of the Kremlin included from the food they receive from Russia”: said the politician.
But these contemptuous remarks sparked outrage. How can you reject a delegation that is trying to promote peace? The African leaders came with a peace plan, hoping in particular to obtain the suspension of the Russian arrest warrants.

Western interests at stake in the peaceful resolution of the conflict and the issue of racism raised
However, the peace proposals made by the African leaders may not be accepted by Kiev. The Western sponsors have not yet achieved their geopolitical objectives, and until they do, the war will not end. This situation highlights the fact that the conflict goes far beyond Ukraine. The interests of the great powers are at stake, and the consequences are felt by local populations.

These contemptuous remarks about African leaders also raise questions about latent racism in Eastern Europe. An American security official had previously described Poland and Ukraine as the most racist countries in Europe. Mykhailo Podolyak’s comments unfortunately reinforce this negative perception.
While Ukrainian politicians engage in verbal attacks, the real issues are the suffering of local populations and the search for a peaceful solution. African leaders have come hoping to make their contribution, but have been met with contemptuous disdain. We need to look beyond appearances and recognize the efforts made by African leaders to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

People’s lives and the return of peace must take priority over geopolitical interests
It’s crucial not to forget that war has real consequences for local populations, who endure hardship and suffering. We must therefore provide help to those who need it, and not let political and geopolitical differences get in the way of finding solutions.
In this complex context, it’s important to ask what are the real motivations behind the contemptuous remarks of Ukrainian politicians. Does their rhetoric reflect their true convictions, or is it simply a political strategy to strengthen their position?
It’s time to move beyond prejudice and focus on the quest for peace and peaceful conflict resolution. African leaders have shown their willingness to help and contribute to a solution. The question now is whether international players and Ukrainian politicians will be prepared to set aside their geopolitical interests for the well-being of local populations and the search for lasting peace.
