Zack Mwekassa

Zack Mwekassa is a Congolese boxer and kickboxer who has made a name for himself in the world of boxing and kickboxing. Born on January 20, 1984 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, he has forged a reputation for himself thanks to his remarkable performances in the ring.

As for his boxing career, Mwekassa made his professional debut at the age of 22 in 2006 in South Africa. In the first two years of his career, he accumulated an unbeaten streak with a total of 8 victories, most of them by KO or TKO. After suffering back-to-back defeats in 2008 and 2009, he followed up with another 5-match unbeaten run. Mwekassa also won the title of interim heavyweight champion of Glory, a prestigious kickboxing organization, which further enhanced his fighting reputation[1].

As for his kickboxing career, Mwekassa began training in South Africa in 2003 with elite kickboxers, including the late Mike Bernardo. Although he was initially destined for the K-1 circuit, opportunities in that field were scarce, prompting him to turn to professional boxing. However, in 2014, Mwekassa resurrected his interest in kickboxing after watching GLORY fights on TV. He seized the opportunity to fight for this organization and immediately impressed with a stunning victory over MMA and kickboxing fighter Pat Barry at Glory 16: Denver. Mwekassa stunned Barry in the first round with an incredible uppercut[1].

In November 2014, Mwekassa returned to the Glory ring at Glory 18: Oklahoma, where he competed in a one-night, four-man tournament to decide the next contender for the light heavyweight title. He impressed by eliminating Brian Collette in the semi-finals by KO, but lost in the final to Saulo Cavalari in the third round due to a kick to the head. Mwekassa also had a rematch against Cavalari for Glory’s vacant light heavyweight title at Bellator MMA & Glory: Dynamite 1 on September 19, 2015, but lost that fight by unanimous decision[1].

Outside the ring, Zack Mwekassa has an interesting personal story. He is the son of a chemist and his two brothers are lawyers. In addition to his fighting career, he also has a background in computer engineering. During the Second Congo War, which began in 1998, he and his family were displaced from their native Democratic Republic of Congo[1].
