Barack Obama delivers an engaging speech on media inequality and global hypocrisy
In a rally, President Barack Obama made a powerful comment about the disparity in media coverage during a recent tragedy. Indeed, he highlighted the considerable attention given to a submarine, the Titan, which had been in the news for several days after five people disappeared on board. Meanwhile, he noted that 700 people disappeared in another tragic event, but without attracting the same attention.
Barack Obama takes a significant step in denouncing the hypocrisy of society and the existence of injustice in the world.
It is essential to remember that African-Americans did not benefit significantly from Barack Obama’s presidency because he supported the interests of those who put him in power. However, this time it’s not about governance. He took a leading role in denouncing injustice around the world. Thus, Obama denounced society’s hypocrisy, claiming that the value placed on human life seemed to vary according to factors such as race, nationality and political interests.
Obama’s speech not only focused on the tragedy in question, but also addressed broader issues of justice and inequality. He criticized society’s passivity and indifference to the suffering of Africans, underlining the responsibility of Western powers for the instabilities that drive many Africans to seek a better life elsewhere.
These overwhelming events are a sign
Public opinion should wake up to this reality and recognize that the lives of 700 people should not be minimized in favor of disproportionate attention to an isolated event, because of skin color. We need to show empathy for those trying to cross the Mediterranean in search of a better life. However, Europe does not always guarantee the happiness and prosperity we had hoped for. The mistreatment of Africans in other countries such as India, the UK or Rwanda should be a wake-up call to Africans that it’s time to stay at home and develop.
Africans must change their mentality
It’s time for a change of mentality. People should invest in their own countries rather than risk their lives for a hypothetically better situation in the West. There are untapped opportunities and potential in Africa. Africans are therefore called upon to develop their own continent rather than seek solutions from outside. People living in Africa are often much happier than those in Europe, because they’ve understood the secret.
Obama’s speech highlighted reflections on media inequality. He agreed to discuss ways of remedying this situation. We aspire to a more just and democratic world, where Africa’s interests are not neglected in favor of a biased media vision.
