Air fares soar: The consequences of a global political conflict
In the midst of a period of geopolitical tension, airline ticket prices have soared to unprecedented levels, affecting travelers the world over. This situation is the result of a political conflict between Russia and certain Western countries, which has disrupted normal air routes. Indeed, Western aircraft were subject to Russian sanctions after Russians were subject to Western sanctions.
The European Union’s embargo on Russian hydrocarbons in response to Russia’s offensive in Ukraine has triggered a series of chain reactions. In retaliation, Russia banned Western airlines from its airspace, forcing flights to Asia to take much longer routes.
Russia forces planes to make detours

To better understand this complex situation, we investigated the reasons behind the surge in airfares. It has emerged that Russia has deliberately blocked access to its airspace for Western airlines, forcing them to make major detours to reach their destinations in Asia and the Middle East.
These detours have increased the distance flown by aircraft by almost 10%, driving up fuel and labor costs for airlines. Unfortunately, these additional costs were passed on to passengers, who had to pay much higher prices for their plane tickets.
One of the main consequences of this political conflict is the impact on the European economy, particularly that of Germany. The sabotage of the pipeline carrying Russian gas to Europe led to a rise in gas prices, affecting the German industrial sector, which was heavily dependent on these lower-cost supplies. The economic consequences of this sabotage were devastating for Europe, which had to turn to liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar and the USA at higher prices.

The UN: an organization driven by the interests of the major powers
As tensions between Russia and Western countries continue to escalate, the repercussions of this political conflict are also affecting international bodies such as the UN. Certain Western countries seem to influence the decisions of the UN, which is made up of only China, the USA, Russia, England and France, to the detriment of diversity and multipolarity. Some leaders, such as Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, are calling for the UN Security Council to be reformed to include more Asian, African and Latin American countries, in order to better represent the interests of the whole world and avoid unilateral decisions. In his view, the over-representation of Western countries undermines the principle of diversity.
People are paying the price for political rivalries: The need to restore peace is urgent

So soaring air fares are not just an economic consequence, but also the result of international political rivalries seeking to impose their interests to the detriment of the world’s population.
Faced with this complex situation, travelers suffer the consequences without being able to participate in international political decisions. It is essential to question the real motivations behind certain policies that directly affect the daily lives of citizens. The world needs more balanced international cooperation, where decisions are not taken in the name of a few countries, but in the interests of all mankind.
The future of air transport and international relations will depend on the willingness of nations to work together to resolve conflicts and find common solutions. As air fares continue to soar, it is essential that world leaders look for ways to defuse tensions and promote lasting peace, allowing travelers to travel the world without political hindrance.
